Founding President and CEO of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, Grand Junction
Christy Whitney was a founding director of a hospice in Durango, Colorado in 1979. She later served as Vice President of Patient Services of Mercy Medical Center and was CEO of Hospice of Northern Virginia. For the past 19 years, Whitney has served as the founding President and CEO of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado.
Whitney is a leader in the field of hospice. She chairs a national collective of hospice executives, The Innovations Group, serves on the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization and the Colorado Center for Hospice & Palliative Care public policy committee. Whitney also serves on the Executive Committee of the Western Health Care Alliance and on the Board of the National Hospice Works Group. She was recently appointed as a member of the National Advisory Committee on Rural health and Human Services. In Colorado, Whitney is co-chair of the Palliative Care subcommittee of the Center for Improved Value in Health Care (CIVHC).
Whitney has bachelor’s degrees in nursing and in psychology and a master’s degree in Community Health Nursing.
