Pediatrician at Eastside Family Health Center and Oral Health Disparities Research Faculty at University of Colorado, Denver
For more than 25 years, Dr. Braun has been serving the underserved Colorado community as a practicing pediatrician at Denver Health where she focuses on addressing whole child health, including oral health. Braun also holds a faculty position at the Adult and Children’s Center for Research and Dissemination Science. Through her research, Dr. Braun has developed a significant interest in the health of Coloradans outside of the clinic walls and continuously works with a large variety of medical and dental providers across the state – helping them better serve their patients. Much of her research has focused on the Native American populations in and around Colorado.
Dr. Braun serves on an American Academy of Pediatrics Executive Committee and is a Professor within the University of Colorado Schools of Medicine and Dentistry. In recent years Dr. Braun was influential in the development, implementation and evaluation of the statewide Cavity Free at Three program which works to significantly reduce the risk of childhood caries in high-risk, underserved populations. She currently serves on the evaluation teams for the SMILES Dental Project and the Colorado Medical Dental Integration Project.
Dr. Braun is a Colorado native and received her undergraduate degree in biology and biochemistry at the University of Colorado before receiving her MD from the same institution. Her residency was completed at Yale University where she was chief resident in 1993. Dr. Braun returned to the University of Colorado, Colorado School of Public Health, in 2006 to receive her Master’s in Public Health. Throughout her career Dr. Braun has received numerous awards including the Denver Health’s Outstanding Teaching Award (2004), CU’s Excellence in Curriculum Development Award (2011) and inclusion in the Best Doctor list from Denver Business Journal (2014).
