Get Smart About Medicaid – Colorado’s Health and Economy Depend on It

As Congress debates the federal budget, critical programs like Medicaid and the Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) are on the chopping block. These proposed cuts would directly impact access to health care for 1.3 million Coloradans — including children, pregnant women, low-income adults, seniors, and people with disabilities.

These programs are vital to our state:

  • 39% of Colorado’s children rely on Medicaid or CHP+ for health coverage
  • 44% of births in Colorado are covered by Medicaid
  • 61% of nursing home residents depend on Medicaid for their care

Beyond healthcare, the economic consequences would be devastating. According to reporting by Colorado Public Radio, these cuts could result in:

  • 12,000 lost jobs
  • $1.3 billion in lost economic activity
  • $82 million less in state and local tax revenue by 2026

Rolling back Medicaid and CHP+ means turning our backs on the progress we’ve made in public health and economic stability. Colorado is known for its commitment to health and well-being — we can’t afford to let that slip away.

The Colorado Department of Health Care Policy & Financing has created a dashboard showing how many people would be affected if federal Medicaid funding were cut. Take a moment to explore it and see what’s at stake.

Then, take action. Contact your Representative and urge others to do the same. Share what access to health care means to you, your family, and your community.

Our health. Our economy. Our future. Let’s protect them.
