Caryn Apodaca

Grants and Fundraising Coordinator

Caryn serves as Caring for Colorado’s grants and fundraising coordinator. In this role, she supports the grants management team and manages incoming donation processes related to Caring for Colorado programs.

Caryn was born and raised in Pueblo and is a proud alumna of Pueblo School District 60 and Colorado College, where she majored in history. She still believes that knowing one another’s stories and understanding how we got here can go a long way toward helping us solve current issues.

After more than 20 enjoyable years working in public radio fundraising in Denver, Caryn was excited and grateful for the opportunity to return to Pueblo for her current role. She enjoys helping applicants and grantees with the online application process and learning more about their missions and stories.

Caryn serves as the secretary of the Colorado State Fair Fiesta Committee. As part of a big extended family (with 35 first cousins), Caryn values all of Pueblo’s community assets — especially its culture, its deep roots, and its green chile!

Caryn’s favorite book as a teen was “Bless Me, Ultima”.

Caryn’s favorite place in Colorado is Southern Colorado, especially Pueblo and the San Luis Valley.

“My favorite teacher was Mr. Joseph Bonacquista, American history teacher. He was unabashedly proud of his roots in Trinidad, Colorado, and he taught the history of the U.S. from the local outward. This inspired my love of home, of place, and of history.”
